Rising prices, stagnant wages and a slowing economy are making life harder for families and seniors from coast to coast to coast. The federal government has the power to make things easier for Canadians, or to make things worse. I'm asking you to take a stand against a regressive policy that will make Canadians poorer and take money from our public services. The proposed cap on the oil and gas sector will actually make life less affordable across Canada. If implemented, it will mean the average Canadian family will have up to $419 less per month to spend on groceries, fuel or housing. When production is cut, jobs, tax revenues and the Canadian economy are all cut as well. A cap on oil and gas production will result in a riskier energy supply for Canadians, thousands of lost jobs and billions in lost federal revenue that pays for important programs and infrastructure across Canada. 150,000 Canadians could lose their jobs and $14 billion a year could be pulled out of our economy. That means less spending at small businesses and less revenue for governments of all levels. Cuts to government programs and delays to infrastructure would follow. Because the oil and gas sector is spread right across Canada and impacts industries across the country, this production cap will be felt from BC to Newfoundland and Labrador and everywhere in between. Let's avoid the lost jobs, more expensive lives, smaller economy and cuts to vital public services by letting common sense prevail.
